Jason Derulo: 'Whatcha Say'

Now its sarky, vocodered hook has been used as the basis for 'Whatcha Say', the debut single – and current stateside chart-topper - from 19-year-old R&B newcomer Jason Derulo. Both artists come out of this well – Derulo's track is transformed from a pleasant but generic make-up song into something clever and catchy, while Heap's credentials as a kooky-yet-accessible pop craftswoman are reinforced. All we need now is for the pair to perform it together. Hmm... aren't the American Music Awards coming up next week?

didn't think this would get 4 stars. on the downside - sampled chorus, usual lyrics, doesn't say much about Derulo as an individual artist. but it's a catchy tune, nice piano melody, and the sample works well. i don't like it enough to want to buy it, but it's one of those songs that from the first few times you hear it, you can just tell it's going to be a big hit.

Hopefully this will resurrect the "quite frankly" awesome H&S.

Not one of my favourites I will admit. Yes, I will say it's a little catchy but one that'll fade faster than it rises

Why is it that in regards to music, having no artistic imput in things is tolerated, even lauded? When an artist's lead singlle is a cover, you know they're going to fade into obscurity relatively quickly.

I love this song an actual lot. He sounds a bit like Chris Brown but much better. I hope it gets in the top 5.

Love it! Love it! LOVE IT! This song is A to the Mazing. Banging tune! JLS should learn to how a good non-cheesy record is like! I really it becomes huge in Britain. I was over States the last couple of weeks and everyone is singing this song. Lastly, someone who actual competition and threat to Chris Brown. :) Let's just hope Jason doesn't into a woman beater. :)

Ah Jason's debut single :D It was awesome another great song of 2009 and to be honest I don't see any similarity with Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek they sound really different to me not really the same tbh...But 2010 has been Jason's year :D
