Strictly in 2007 helped relaunch
Alesha Dixon's faultering pop career. She went from girlband also-ran to chart hitmaker with the flick of a foxtrot. When it was announced that she was taking over from Arlene Phillips as a judge on the show, many presumed it would lead her to further glories in the manner of
X Factor/Girls Aloud/nation's sweetheart Cheryl Cole. Instead, however, she became embroiled in a nasty ageism row - for the first time in her career, Dixon found herself with the wealth of public opinion against her.
'To Love Again', a new track taken from her upcoming album reissue, will hopefully remind people that there's more to Alesha than the tiresome
Strictly kerfuffle. Co-written with Gary Barlow, it's something of a shift from her usual upbeat style, sounding not unlike one of Take That's recent hearty pop ballads. Original as a Brucie punchline it may be, but when she gets all emotional and belts out the super-sized chorus, you'll be left wondering why such a talented, likable popstar was forced to turn to reality TV in the first place.
