Little Boots: 'Earthquake'
It's been a funny old year for Little Boots. Lady GaGa stole the headlines, La Roux scored more chart glory and Florence and her Machine won over the critics. Meanwhile, hotly-tipped Victoria Hesketh has waddled along with only moderate success – neither of her first two singles cracked the top five. It's the right time, therefore, for the Blackpool lass to be releasing one of the prime cuts from her terrific Hands album.

A proper disco-pop stomper, 'Earthquake' has the words "smash hit" oozing out of every synth ripple and vocal echo. However, what makes Boots's brand of sweet pop so endearing is what lies just beneath the electro-fizzy surface. "I know that people change," Hesketh coos here, before adding the bleak, damning refrain: "Maybe you're not to blame, but must you burn a hole, so deep into my soul?" Many more infectious, emotion-laden tunes like this and it won't be long before she has the sales figures to match her early hype.

@ EMILYBEMILYB on November 14th, 2009 Whoah there!!!!......"FatBoots"???? are you for real or just totally insane? In what way is the utterly beautiful Little Boots fat?? Jealousy is a terrible thing, and if you are not carfeul, it will rip you apart. You really need to concentrate more on your school work instead. As for the song.....well its pretty damn fine, but if I was going to be picky, I would have gone with 'Mathematics' instead, as its the best song on the album.

i've just not been convinced by Little Boots, even though i'm a sucker for her kind of music. i've heard her album a few times, and it's really good, but i just don't get any vibes from her as a singer, and i can't see much to distinguish her from others. i love all the electro production and all the effects on this song, but it just doesn't grab me, personally. i just don't think Little Boots has the personality which is, more often than not, required for a mainstream-targeted artist like her who makes such production-heavy pop songs. i've seen her live a few times, albeit on tv, and while you can only gather so much from watching on tv, she doesn't really seem to command the stage and give much of a performance, and her voice isn't the best - and i'm not saying it has to be, but compare her voice to someone like Lady Gaga (just listen to Bad Romance) who uses clever attention-grabbing lyrics and crazy vocal effects. i think it goes to show that to be a successful electropop singer, just having decent songs isn't enough. Earthquake is by no means a bad song, but i'm actually not surprised it hasn't charted well. sadly i can't see Little Boots lasting much longer as she is now, she would have to show more personality and individuality in my opinion. maybe the best is yet to come from her?

this is one of my favourite songs from the album, but I just don't think she can live up to all the hype surrounding her. It's a shame, but none could have expected Lady GaGa or La Roux to have exploded like that and steal her thunder!

I don't understand why she hasn't cracked the top 5 yet :/. Its honestly baffling, She has amazing songs (new in town, remedy) yet shes still behind some of the most toolish singers ever! love earthquake!

Well, well, well, It was all fine untill FatBoots "Stepped in TOWN" She really did cause an "Earthquake" but i guess that's just her "Remedy" she deserves a "Meddle" and it doesn't take "Mathematics" to work that one out....

Love the new single and am pleased it is getting decent radio air play and the positive reviews the single deserves. I have seen Vic live this year in Preston and the whole production was fantastic, Seeing her again in Manchester in a few weeks.

I LOVE this song! My favourite, and I think definitely the best, song off her album (which I also loved). 'Remedy' was great and this is another step up. I think it's such a shame it hasn't gotten a great deal of airplay (because it's great!). I love Little Boots. I think she's better than La Roux, but not quite as good as GaGa.

Fair review. Probably up there with the best songs from her album but I don't think it's got the potential to better Remedy's chart position, with all the X-Factor tripe that's charting highly these days. A shame really, as this would be top five quality if not for the X-Factor, so a top ten placing would be alright for Boots
