Last year's X Factor charity single, a cover of Mariah Carey's 'Hero', became the second-biggest seller of 2008 and raised more than £1m for wounded servicemen and women, so it was pretty inevitable that this year's finalists – all 12 of them – would be asked to stay late for a bit of pro bono. If possible, it's an even schmaltzier affair than last year, a rendition of Michael Jackson's 'You Are Not Alone' in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Just to recap, that's sick kids, a dead beloved superstar and a big old blancmange of a pop ballad.

As you'd expect, the finalists trill their way through gamely enough, with Joe McElderry's bell-clear vocals leading the way, Miss Frank sounding wonderfully husky on record, and John and Edward apparently being given the grand total of one line. Meanwhile, the fact that it's Danyl Johnson who steers the tinselly, choir-assisted climax could offer a clue as to where Simon Cowell's prime loyalties lie. Lots of pop fans will get their G-strings in a terrible twist when this hits No.1 a week today, but the riposte will keep coming back like an automated response email: "Ah yes, but it's all for..." Besides, for our money, this is more listenable than 'Hero' ever was.

It was okay not as good as "Hero" and I disagree Hero was as listenable as this The people who had the edge were Rachel, Danyl, Jamie, Olly, Lucie and Miss Frank,The people who were okay were Lloyd, Ricky and KR and the mediocore/bad people were Stacey and Joe and the really bad - Jedward don't even start -_-'Hero I gave 5/5 and this I'll give a 3 But this is much better than this year's single but not any better tbh...

I actually really like this, great sound choice imo :) Though I honestly think that John&Edward should have been given more to sing :/ Their voices really suit this. At least there's quite a bit of them in the video XD Love them :) ♥ ♥ Joe sounds great too, I think he was a very deserving winner, his voice always sounded brilliant :) I just don't like Stacey's voice, it goes through me :/ Miss Frank's part was also good :) I agree that it was better that 'Hero' too-it just is :)

I think this is a wonderful choice of song as it is relevant to the cause they are supporting. The vocals are all great (hate to admit it but even John & Edwards line was ok). Think its great that Joe opened and closed, but there is far to much of Danyl. Their vocals may well have been edited on the CD, but if you watched the live performance on Sunday it was amazing. My thoughts for final three would be Joe, Stacey & Olly.

This is really quite lovely. I hate when people look too far into things and then twist it out of proportion. It's a song for a worthy charity sung nicely by Reality TV contestant with lovely lyrics. Yes, Cowell and co will be getting a profit out of it, but don't all record companies get the profits out of charity singles? It doesn't make Cowell and the production team 'evil'. It doesn't make the contestants bad people. Believe it or not, they are doing something nice for charity so I wish people would just accept that for what it is. Many opinions are extremely predujiced because it's The X Factor. Anyway, it's much better than 'Hero'. Joe, Miss Frank, Rikki and Danyl are standouts for me. I find it quite heartwarming, really. My only real quarrel is that there's a strong whiff of cheese coming off this, so I give it 4 stars instead of five.

i don't care what the singers are like. yes it's for charity, which is obviously a great thing, but does anyone honestly think Cowell and the gang aren't earning out of it too? give me a break. they're very clever here - they can kill any classic song they like, they get a guaranteed no.1 out of it, which they will all go hysterical over on sunday, but you can't say anything negative about it or you're a 'bad person' etc... if these x factor charity songs really are all about raising money for charity, then surely there's no reason for them to be entering the charts? oh, hang on... that's the main reason they do it. put it this way - if these songs weren't allowed to enter the charts, do you think they would still do them? not a chance. they're just loving all the attention and good press, and the no.1 single which they will kid themselves that they 'earned'. i'll donate directly to GOSH instead, thanks.

Look, if say Mariah Carey did a cover of this song for example, all of you would be saying 'Omg this is amazing!' etc. But because it's the X Factor finalists, you've already prejudged it. I think it's actually very good, Joe, Stacey & Miss Frank definitely stand out. Yes, they do it for some publicity (the X Factor don't even need it) but it's going towards charity. So just go with the flow!
