La Roux: 'Quicksand'

Elly said she wouldn't do it - then again, Elly says a lot of things - but whether through choice, record label arm-twisting or an acknowledgement that 'I'm Not Your Toy' didn't do the business chart-wise, La Roux are reissuing 'Quicksand', the track that got us so excited about them this time last year. Fortunately, it remains as arresting as ever.

Like most of the songs on their debut album, it's a winning combination of pop smarts, stifling romantic obsession and production that mixes the sounds of '82 with the sonic punch of '09. "You're the upsetter stroking my hand," Jackson croons over synth-pop as hard and bouncy as a rubber ball that somehow wound up in the freezer. She may be a gobby little wotsit at times, but, as this cracker reaffirms, you can't accuse La Roux of being all mouth and no trousers.

I really dislike this song. I don't see why they are still around, La Roux's first song was bad to.

I don't see the hype around this song. It is not that good at all, and La Roux,or whatever the main singer is called is a self-centered, rude and conceited snob! This songs gets 4 stars! Unbelievable. La Roux has ruined electro-pop music for me and does it no justice!!

this is more like it, much better than the last single. at this stage it doesn't look like it will chart well, it's had moderate airplay, but not much promotion besides that. but, as others have commented, if this song was released instead of I'm Not Your Toy, i reckon it would of fared much better, when the (deserved) hype was still burning bright following the massive, if somewhat unexpected, success of the the previous 2 singles. but it's died down a bit now after the not-so-brilliant I'm Not Your Toy flopped. feels like a bit of a missed opportunity, these days proper artists like La Roux have to strike when the iron's red hot.

La Roux are this years fad..hopefully by this time next year her screeching will be relegated to a bargain basement somewhere far far away..electro-pop may be back to stay, i say that as an 80's electro-pop fan but they do it no justice..la Roux are dreadful

What can you say huh? Besides Burke Lewis stick that in your crack pipe and smoke it. Ms Jackson and co are here to stay especially if they put out tracks like this. I too thought this should have been released before I'm Not Your Toy, but the fact that it had been released on Kitsune they didn't want to do so. But I am glad they have done so, this is my personal favourite. Great album, great look, great live and great personality, La Roux are here to stay

This is the track that brought La Roux to my attention. The video seemed BOWIE-ish to me. Loved the song and it deserves a good chart position.

I love this song, although I think it would have done miles better in the charts if it had been released as the third single with a new video.

She's dreadful - terrible voice and looks odd.
