Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band: 'The Official BBC Children In Need Medley'

Children In Need singles have never been regular No.1s like their Comic Relief counterparts - Pudsey can't have been happy when last year's effort, a double A-sider from McFly, stalled at #18 - so this time out Auntie's drafted in Peter Kay, self-proclaimed Raider of the Pop Charts, to rake in the filthy-yet-charitable lucre. Presumably Geraldine's having her staples out or something, so he's assembled an 'Animated All Star Band' to front a seven-song medley of crowd-pleasing tunes. The roll of honour: The Jacksons, Fleetwood Mac, Pussycat Dolls, Chumbawumba, Take That, The Beatles and... erm... Elbow.

Of course, the real enjoyment here lies in the charming video, which unites everyone from Bagpuss to SpongeBob, Pingu to Postman Pat in perfect harmony, but the song itself is a jolly romp that's sure to go down well with Mad Trev from IT at the office Christmas party. The faintly ridiculous high-point? The Mac's 'Don't Stop' seguing into 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire. If there isn't something here to make you smile, even if it's just the sight of Pudsey rocking out on a guitar solo, you really need to start slipping some rum into your evening cocoa.
