Pixie Lott: 'Cry Me Out'

When it comes to forming the perfect pop package, Pixie Lott does the job almost too well. She's nailed the sexy-yet-innocent look, managed to avoid wracking up any unfavourable column inches, and - most importantly - proved her chart credentials with two No. 1 singles already under her Topshop belt. To wrap up the year in true popstar fashion, she's back with a ballad in time for Christmas.

The third release from her Turn It Up album, 'Cry Me Out' is a sultry, soulful affair that warms the cockles like a cup of cocoa on a cold winter's night. Still just 18, Lott's vocals have a rich and smoky tone beyond her years, but she keeps it fresh with some snappy couplets: "Mate you're too late, and you weren't worth the wait." This isn't hugely original, and it doesn't quite have the instant impact of its predecessors, but it still shows the class that's characterised Lott's breakthrough success this year.

3 stars? It's her best song to date by far. The singles reviews here are always odd. Giving 5's to some of the worst songs ever and 3 to amazing songs like this.

I've never really liked Pixie Lott, but I have to say I do really like this song. It's just a nice, sweet song.

There's no denying that Pixie Lott has a rich, smoky voice, which is very intriguing, especially seeing as she's only 18/19 (she also writes her songs, which is a plus). But the song itself is very bland and does not do anything for me, which is disappointing as she has a good personality. Like you correctly said she is too polished and perfectand lacks originality. In the businness it is longetivity that counts, and I do not think we'll no her name in two years. She should go back to school and get some A-Levels; she wont make it that big in the music industry despite having two number one singles.

Truly dire. Incoherent wailing over a so-unoriginal-it's-cringeworthy backing track. Pixie Lott really is a talentless muppet, manufactured and hyped by the money-grabbing record companies.

I had yet to come across a song that was extremely dull, yet made me cringe so bad until now. Well done Pixie!

It's nice, it's just a bit meh. Her vocals go a bit all over the place in this and I have to agree with Mark's comments about the video. Pixie gives good song after good song but I just find it hard to sit up and take an interest in her. I think her music is nothing above average, which is a bit disappointing when you look at all the hype she's gotten.

It's not as good as "Boys & Girls", which is still my fave of hers - though I will admit I'm not a fan of Pixie herself. This song isn't too bad, but the video really gets you down. She looks too much in it like the cat who got the cream - not exactly the way you would expect her to look when you hear the song and it's lyrics. Maybe that's the point, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Doubt it will be Number 1.

I loved this song, the first time I heard it on the album and shows that she canhandle a ballad as well as an uptempo number. Pixie is the new English babe of the pop charts & hopefully, this song will increase her popularity.

She sounds disturbingly similar to Natasha Bedingfield at times which is a career killer right there. However, she has much better tunes although this isn't one of them. I agree with the others, Here We Go Again should have been released instead.

Love the song, hate the video. It doesn't make sense, looks very stilted and the grayscale tint doesn't do any justice either- so much so that Pixie has almost no focus throughout the entire video.

Can't stand Pixie Lott. Her voice is absolutely awful in this. She definitely wins the prize for the most overhyped, yet bland singer of the year (Stacey off The X Factor comes a close second :P)

agree with alan, was thinking the same Here We Go Again would've been a better choice as the 3rd single it's really catchy
