Sugababes: 'Santa Baby'
Being a Sugababe has never been an especially secure form of employment, but when sole original member Keisha Buchanan was sensationally axed from the lineup earlier this year, many of the trio's previously loyal followers vowed never to support the group again. Clearly counting on time proving a healer, the latest incarnation are offering the hand of peace with a download-only cover of 'Santa Baby' as a Christmas gift - albeit one that will set you back 79p.

Originally released by Eartha Kitt in 1953, this festive chestnut has since been tackled by everyone from Kylie to Shakira, Macy Gray to Madonna. How does the Sugas' version measure up? Well, as the first track recorded with new Babe Jade in mind, it certainly suggests that the group have retained the edge vocally over their girlband rivals. Harmonising in lush, soulful fashion, the trio show plenty of sass as they urge Santa, in time-honoured fashion, to "hurry down the chimney tonight". The result doesn't stray too far from the original, but it does have a recognisable Sugababes touch, which may be enough to convince a few lapsed fans to keep their ears on the group in 2010. Album number seven, of course, is on its way.

Sugababes R the best , Heidi IS the sugababes n she always will be, the others left becasue they thort they were bigger than the band.... simon cowell offered heidi a chance at a solo and she did not take it - why ??? - becasue she is loyal and dedicated, sugababes are contantly changing and evolving like life itself. They are the best UK girld band ever

To 'KEZ'; So what if people do not like the song? That is what we are rating it for and you are being sad by swearing like a chav. Don't get emotional. Take your medication and stop swearing off to people on the internet.

They're just Substitutes and they will always be if they stay in the band. That's the truth. And the song suck with their voices. Shakira did better.

Why is blatent and obvious 'hating' trolling being allowed. All the 1 stars are coming from the same sad lonely person who needs to go and get a life..... to return the favour I will troll the next Girls Aloud one.

I can't stand the Sugababes anymore, I wish Mutya and Keisha never left, they're a completely different band now and shouldn't be called the sugababes.

The best version, second to Eartha, of course is Cynthia Basinet (aka "c. basinet"). Often miscredited to Marilyn, who never recorded the song.
