Simian Mobile Disco ft. Beth Ditto: 'Cruel Intentions'

Simian Mobile Disco - a.k.a production duo James Ford and Jas Shaw - won't turn many heads when they walk down the street, but they're on texting terms with some of pop's biggest names. Florence And The Machine, Muse and the Arctic Monkeys have all employed their know-how behind the mixing desk, while the pair's sophomore album, Temporary Pleasure, boasts collaborations with Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys, Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip and Beth Ditto, who lends her ample talents to latest single 'Cruel Intentions'.

Her remit here? To reveal a rarely-glimpsed ruthless streak - by telling a fit young thing she's spotted on the dancefloor that she's "not the one I'll spend my life with" and "love can be a meaningless emotion". SMD, meanwhile, supply hints of '70s disco and their usual elegantly throbbing beats. The result isn't massively original, but if you need something to help you work off those last few mince pies (and roast potatoes, and pigs-in-blankets...), this is a cool, classy option.
