Plastiscines: 'Bitch'

Oooh, naughty! This single has a title which tends to get bleeped when it features in MTV-ready versions of Eminem tracks. Of course, a girl's own confession to bitchdom isn't all that controversial, as Meredith Brooks proved with her radio-friendly rock hit of the same name back in 1997. Thankfully though, this single from French femme-poppers Plastiscines is a lot spunkier than Brooks's hippy-dippy woman-as-Gaia ode - and it also takes itself less seriously.

You may have heard 'Bitch' already on US teen drama Gossip Girl, with the photogenic four-piece even making a cameo in a recent episode. "I'm a bitch, B-I-T-C-H" goes the power-chord heavy chorus, and it's hard not to find yourself suppressing a daft grin. The popped-up Ramones/Stooges/Hives influence is as clear as day, and although Helen Love, The Donnas, Mika Bomb and their riot grrrl predecessors did much the same thing for the ladies years ago (and a lot better), this is still a complete blast.
