Taylor Swift: 'Today Was A Fairytale'
Taking potshots at Taylor Swift is almost too easy. At times her glossy, poppy take on country can seem as authentic as those sparkly pink cowboy hats they sell outside Take That gigs. Vocally, well, she's no Faith Hill. And then there's the fact that the songbird herself is every bit as wholesome as her million-selling odes to growing up in smalltown America.

Well, the naysayers will love clawing this latest single, whose opening salvo actually goes: "Today was a fairytale / You were the prince / I was the damsel in distress." Taylor Swift, in case you were wondering, turned 20 in December. However, the rest of us should be suitably impressed by another relatable, elegantly-constructed song whose chorus is good enough to make you think, 'Who cares if she sounded ropey at the Grammys?' And this is just something she's knocked out for a rom-com soundtrack.

A really boring song from such an overrated artist. It sounds the same as everything else she has done so far. It's a pity I've listened to it like a dozen times now and forget what it sounds like.

I love Taylor Swift and i have both her albums but this is terrible nothing like love story, you belong with me, white horse etc and she does have a great voice!! at least she actually has the guts to perform live unlike more influential pop stars (britney, cheryl)

Oh yes, I forgot. Thanks for reminding me. In my opinion, she just epitomises successful untalented singers. ;)

"Moiee Manchester on February 7th, 2010 Same old 'she wouldn't be winning all these awards if she didn't have talent'. Cheryl Cole has won awards, she ain't got an ounce of musical talent. Jedward are currently quite successful - they're talentless. Plenty of people are successful, doesn't make them talented. Yes, obviously someone likes them, but I don't. That's my opinion. And no, I probably couldn't write a song that good, but I'm not a professional musician and I'm not overhyped. I like a few of her songs, but as C in London previously said, they're repetitive, they sound the same, they're unoriginal... They're like 'Twilight'. Average, maybe even below average, yet there they are winning awards and being massively overhyped and fangirled. Her songs aren't bad, but it's all recycled crap she or someone else has done before. IMO, no offence or anything. *I just realised that seeing as you're from America, you probably haven't heard of any of the examples I've posted above (except for Twilight, obviously). ;)" that's where!!!!!!!!

Taylor Swift's overall sound is reminiscent of a blind monkey playing a one stringed guitar with it's feet, while Avril Lavigne drones on in the back ground. she has the musical and lyrical panache of a 6 year old and the charisma of 3 year old. This celebration of pure mediocrity is nothing more than an attempt to sway the balance away from truly iconic black artists and appease the white conservatives in America. If this is the case, and who would doubt it isn't, than surely they could have used a more credible poster girl for their campaign. Nowhere was this more apparent than at the 2009 VMAs when Beyonce walked away with best overall video yet failed to win in the female category. Did no one else recognise this.....oh yes, that'd be Kanye West. Denied in similar circumstances in 2007 Justice. hmmmm. yet he's vilified for his protests. although completely unacceptable in his methods he was the sole voice passionate enough to make a stand and debate the baffling judgement. I am fervently committed to the notion that musical taste is solely dependent on the individual and for some Taylor Swift may be the embodiment of all their musical aspirations. I appreciate that, I really do. But I remember when people adored music for the emotions it created, for the memories it evoked. If you can truly say that you closed your eyes and embraced the goose bumps as you heard, 'Today was a fairytale I wore a dress, You wore a dark grey t-shirt. You told me I was pretty when I looked like a mess,Today was a fairytale', than I pity you and invite you to open your ears and minds to all the wonderful music that the world has to offer. Please boycott this drivel, please....

i really love taylor but this is no way as good as 'you belong with me' or 'love story'. Not a very good song from her, but i know she'll do better next time. PS. i think she's really pretty with a voice of an angel.

Who cares if she's 20? Many, many young women of around this age still love a bit of fairytale in their lives and there's nothing wrong with that.

There I must disagree, Liam. We are not jealous. just because you like her and don't see any reason why we should not does not automatically make us jealous. To be jealous of her we would actually have to think she is good... And we don't. She is not the greatest, and most certainly does not 'rock'. She's supposed to be country... No Taylor, slapping the genre 'country' on your album and putting a guitar in does not in a ny way make it country. You can call a tail a leg, but that does not make it a leg. Lots of people around the world like her, I'm not one of them. Neither are many otherd. Face the fact and live with it. ;)

WOW look at all these jealous people and wankers on here. Taylor Swift is the greatest and rocks. How can she be talentless when she's been winning awards left right and centre also she has written most of her songs from her album which a lot of artists these days can't do. Lots of people around the world love her so if you don't get a pipe and stick up you know where because know1 is listening to u. By shitheads
