Michael Jackson and his brothers were damn sure that it couldn't be blamed on the sunshine, the moonlight or
the good times, instead laying all culpability at the door of the boogie. Mika
, on the other hand, takes another route, blaming it on the girls (and the boys... and your mum… and your dad). Nowt wrong with his theory, perhaps, but as well as shifting responsibility, 'Blame It On The Girls' also sums up everything that's wrong with Mika in just over three minutes.
Despite his endearing day-glo attitude, his music often falls just short of the delirious catchiness really needed to pull off his irritatingly jolly shtick. This third single from last year's Boy Who Knew Too Much
LP kicks off with a great opening couplet ("He's got looks that books take pages to tell / He's got a face to make you fall on your knees") but yet again the melody can't carry the weight of his Proper Pop ambitions. Sadly, it makes the fine 'We Are Golden'
seem more like a one-off blip than a real corner turned.> Click here to read our review of Mika's album
