Ellie Goulding: 'Starry Eyed'

It's kind of ironic that Ellie Goulding's first proper single is called 'Starry Eyed'. Despite hearty pats on the back from the BBC, the Brits panel and Diana Vickers's A&R team, the Hereford-born singer-songwriter remains as grounded as a Boeing 747 in a blizzard - check out our recent interview with the lady herself if you don't believe us.

Of course, 'Starry Eyed' isn't about fame-seeking at all, but, in the words of Goulding, "the joining together of people in some kind of euphoric state - be it at a festival, at a show or in a club". It captures this sensation beautifully, managing to sound folky, poppy and dancey all at the same time, and packing one hell of a punch without losing its quintessential light 'n' floatiness. Factor in Goulding's remarkable voice and you've got a single which pretty much epitomises the expression "pop magic".
