Gorillaz: 'Stylo'

It's a testament to the quality of Gorillaz' music that it doesn't feel like five years since their last album. The musical landscape may have changed significantly since 2005's Demon Days, but cuts like 'DARE' and 'Feel Good Inc' still sound like hip, cutting edge pop hits. The only problem facing Damon Albarn and co. is the tricky task of topping two commercially successful and critically-acclaimed LPs. However, if this comeback track is anything to by, they shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Featuring superior cameos from soul legend Bobby Womack and hip-hop star Mos Def, 'Stylo' is a dirty great slab of electronic funk. Womack's passionate hollering about the "love electric" that'll be "flowing on the streets" and the murky, hushed synths make for a captivating combo. Held together by some fragile Albarn harmonies and a beat that's not a million miles away from vintage Pet Shop Boys, there's an over-arching cool to this track that suggests Murdoc, 2D, Russel and Noodle will be having a very busy 2010.
