Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song
Hang on... there's something awfully familiar about this title. It wasn't, but yes, it was! Sadly though - or happily I guess, depending on your viewpoint - this isn't a cover of the rubbish Bon Jovi single from 1995. Instead, Scouting For Girls have written their very own mediocre pop song called 'This Ain't A Love Song'. To be fair to the much-maligned three-piece, this trailer from upcoming second album Everybody Wants To Be On TV is leaps and bounds ahead of the infuriating cuts from their self-titled debut. Yup. Instead of wanting to rip off your ears while listening to this, it's actually quite possible to zone it out entirely with a mere smidgeon of effort.

It's got the same cheeky-chappy indie-by-numbers vibe as their earlier stuff, but with a shade more of The Feeling's 'Fill My Little World'/Oasis's 'Little By Little' melody and Good Will Out-era Embrace strings going on. The lyrics are predictably awful ("Though I'm down I'll be coming back fighting / I may be scared and a little bit frightened"), and it really does sound like a whole load of derivative nothing. Frontman Roy Stride claims to have trashed an entire album's worth of tunes and started over with LP2 because "it just wasn't good enough". "I just wanted to write the perfect pop song. We're perfectionists," he gushed recently. Oh dear Roy - back to the drawing board.
