The Pipettes 'Stop The music'
Forget everything you know about The Pipettes. After a series of lineup changes that makes the Sugababes look like steady eddies, the Brighton group have ditched the '50s girl group sound, re-emerged as a duo and hired '80s-tastic knob-twiddler Martin Rushent (Human League, Spandau Ballet) to produce their ambitiously-titled new album, Earth vs. Pipettes.

This trailer single is the very definition of a grower. An entrancing, string-swathed disco ballad with no fewer than three choruses and a hook - "I can see your heart beat" - that soon becomes mesmerising, 'Stop The Music' is polished and pretty without being overly-glossy. On this evidence, the second incarnation of The Pipettes could be even more delectable than the first - and besides, polka dots are so o-vah anyway.
