Alicia Keys: 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart'

With her last single, 'Empire State Of Mind (Part II)', refusing to leave the top 40 after an impressive 20 weeks, you can't blame Alicia Keys for pushing forward with her next release, 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart'. As the charts currently stand, 'Empire' is precisely one place above 'Sleeping', with the two hits at 30 and 31 respectively, but the latter is on course to overtake its predecessor this Sunday.

A definite standout from her Element Of Freedom album, it combines Keys's breathy vocals with some military-style drumming on the verses before hitting a chorus that's packed with palpable emotion. "I'm gonna find a way to make it without you tonight," Keys promises over a Prince-style synth line, resulting in a power ballad as effortless as it is timeless. If 'Heart' hangs around the charts for anywhere near as long as 'Empire' has, you certainly won't hear us complaining.
