Alphabeat 'DJ (I Could Be Dancing)'
If you had to pick any of the current pop crop to write a song that, in their own words, "sounds a bit like Stock Aitken Waterman", it would have to be Alphabeat. After all, they had their 2008 single 'Boyfriend' reswizzled by PWL "Mixmaster" Pete Hammond; they're not too snooty to admit that their favourite ever SAW track is Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up'; and they seem driven by the same obsession with the perfectly-formed pop song that fuelled the Hit Factory in its heyday.

However, 'DJ (I Could Be Dancing)' is no mere period reproduction. Actually, it sort of sounds like a lost SAW classic that's been given a gleaming filter house makeover by some smart-arse continental knob-twiddler with a penchant for a trancey middle 8. The result is utterly infectious, and with lots of lines like "I need something I can dance to" and "All night let the music play", it upholds the pop truth that you can never have too many great dance-pop songs about dancing to great dance-pop songs. C.f. J.Lo's 'Play', Madge's 'Into The Groove', Ri's 'Don't Stop The Music'...
