K'Naan: 'Wavin' Flag (Celebration Remix)'

National footy songs, as everyone knows, aren't usually much to write home about. With the honourable exceptions of New Order, Baddiel & Skinner and Del Amitri, pretty much all of them can be kicked into touch. Of course, international numbers are a different thing altogether, being much more inclusive and hippy-dippy/inspirational than nationalist ditties featuring Keith Allen. Shakira has supplied this year's official World Cup theme, 'Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)', and now Somali-born Canadian rapper K'Naan has joined the party with this 'Celebration Remix' of last year's 'Wavin' Flag', recorded as the anthem for sponsors Coca-Cola.

So, in honour of an advert coming your way soon, Keane's new mate has added a load of tribal-sounding drums to the existing track along with some extra lyrics imploring us to "rejoice in the beautiful game". It will sound absolutely mega being blared across the terraces in South Africa, and while this isn't really the sort of thing fans will sing along to, it's got a lovely uplifting, celebratory vibe nonetheless. The final score? Not as good as 'Nessun Dorma', but oh so much better than Simply Red's 'We're In This Together'.
