Lady GaGa: 'Alejandro'

It seems Lady GaGa is now well-trained in the art of topping a global smash. The trick? Just put out another one. Now on the seventh single from The Fame/Monster, she's showing few signs of flagging - aside from the occasional onstage collapse. To be honest, given all she's achieved over the past 18 months, we're surprised she hasn't worked herself into a full-on coma yet.

'Alejandro' nods to Madge's 'La Isla Bonita' and Ace Of Base's more notable hits, but GaGa adds her own inimitable twist too, ensuring it works as homage rather than mere carbon copy. The result is pure pop perfection, where the melodies are deceptively catchy, the lyrics are wistful, and the boys, well, they're "hot like Mexico". It may be her first summer as a true international superstar, but here GaGa sounds as seasoned and sophisticated as her idols.
