Sunday Girl: 'Self Control'

'Self Control' is such a dancefloor classic that over the years it's been able to sustain dodgy remixes, dodgier remakes and, dodgiest of all, the Ricky Martin treatment... in Spanish. At this stage, it seems fair to say that the late Laura Branigan's signature tune deserves a rest.

Or so we thought until we heard this version. Sunday Girl - a.k.a. trendy electro newcomer Jade Williams - has reimagined the Italo-disco original as a noirish synth-pop nugget, her distinctive little girl lost vocals coaxing out the quiet despair in the lyrics. The result reminds you just what a great song 'Self Control' is while also giving it a renewed lease of life - now, isn't that just what you want from a pop cover?
