Scissor Sisters: 'Any Which Way'

"When I was taking my pantyhose out of their egg this evening / I thought, I'm gonna find that man," Ana Matronic declares on the new Scissors single. While it's a situation we've yet to find ourselves in directly, we wholeheartedly take on its sentiments. As the line suggests, after waving their multi-coloured comeback flag earlier this year with 'Fire With Fire', the New York foursome have returned to their filthy-gorgeous roots for the follow-up - and we all know what that means by now, surely?

That's right, another fabulously syncopated slice of dirty disco - and with a '70s-style bassline, vintage Yamaha keyboards and the occasional electro squiggle, this newbie manages to feel as grimey as the age-old watering holes of the upper west side. There are few surprises here of course, but the return of Jake's classic falsetto and the group's enthusiasm for getting frisky just about anywhere - by the fireplace, on a yacht and even in front of our parents - are a welcome reminder of why we fell for them in the first place. Anyone requiring further evidence should reacquaint themselves with their latest album cover, post-haste!
