Selena Gomez & The Scene: 'Round & Round'

Selena Gomez certainly isn't one to dilly-dally. Since releasing her debut platter, Kiss & Tell, five months ago, she's shot another season of fantastical teen sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place, completed a pair of high-profile films, and tackled the always-tricky sophomore album. Impressive stuff for a girl still in her teens, but is she really ready to - ahem - up sticks from WDU (Walt Disney University)?

Well, the glossy electro-pop-rock of this trailer single certainly presents a more sophisticated side to the songbird, and the lyrics about being entangled in a difficult relationship suggest a degree of emotional growth, but sadly the good work's squandered on a chorus that limps along like a rusty old Ford Cortina during rush hour on the M25. Kudos to Gomez for avoiding the predictable Hilary/Miley teen-rawk route, but we recommend a final term at WDU to perfect her craft further.
