Will.i.am & Nicki Minaj: 'Check It Out'

When you cameo on more songs than you headline, forging a career of your own is a tricky business. The exception to the rule, of course, is Nicki Minaj. Her solo moments may seem rarer than a sunny day in Bolton, but her mere presence on a track commands the sort of attention usually reserved for long-established hip-hop heavyweights.

Tossing off lines like "Haters, you can kill yourself!" over an unmistakable Buggles sample, Minaj once again steals the spotlight on this one - even if the other artiste does happen to be will.i.am. As the twosome battle it out for the Most Ear-Snagging Rhyme prize, the robotic vocals, trip-hop beats and quirky dance breakdowns - not to mention those "ooh-ooh!"s - combine to create what we imagine a game of vintage ping-pong played in the year 2084 might sound like. The result? Utterly baffling - but then again, from a woman whose latest alter-ego is "Roman Zolanski", what else would you expect?
