Spark: 'Revolving'

Well well well... it's that time of year again. The labels are spewing out their most-stocking stuffable releases - Take That! Su-Bo! The Jovi! - Simon Cowell's securing himself another Christmas in the Caribbean and pop pundits of every description are beginning to assemble their Ones To Watch / Next Big Thing / Tips For 2011 list.

Grappling for a spot is Spark, an 18-year-old electropopper from East London with a stint at the Brit School on her CV, a support slot with Marina and the Diamonds under her trendy vintage belt and a birth certificate proclaiming the name "Jessica Sparkle Morgan". This perfectly timed and perfectly charming buzz single feels almost modest and old-fashioned compared to recent offerings from pop A-list's, being the warm, friendly handshake to the slap round the chops of a 'Poison', say, or an 'Only Girl'. The Middle Eastern-tinged B-side, 'Wrap', is every bit as infectious, suggesting that with a generous injection of promotional gas, this Spark could be about to blow up. (Sorry.)
