Nicole Scherzinger: 'Poison'

It's had more false starts than a sprinter with a nervous twitch, but Nicole Scherzinger's shoulda-been-a-no-brainer of a solo career finally looks to be getting out of the blocks. She's won over her countryfolk on Dancing With The Stars, shown us Brits she's more than a pretty face and an oh-so-toned tummy on The X Factor, and, crucially, bagged herself a banger of an (ahem) "debut single".

Produced by RedOne - and yes, we are instructed as such in the customary fashion - 'Poison' is a full-on guitar-driven club pumper with more than a whiff of the Berlin teknoklub about it. Actually, it's a bit of a racket in the best possible way, but Nicooooole's got the chops to rise above RedOne's rumpus, informing us that she's got "poison on my mind" with enough convinction to suggest Lewis might want to keep an eye on the kitchen next time she's rustling up a romantic dinner for two. "It's just a bit of extra paprika, lover."
