Bow Wow has released the second single from his 2005 album, Wanted - Like You.

The single features the distinctive vocals of his girlfriend, Grammy award winning artist Ciara, who provides the melodic drive for the track. Her breathy voice is extremely pleasant to the ear, even if she is given practically less than nothing to work with.

The track is overall pretty much devoid of substance. A thin texture would automatically tend to track the ear towards the vocal line, or the lyrics or even the rhythm of the track. It is such a pity that these elements are so unremarkable.

The track is by no means hideous to listen to, nor is it particularly offensive - the problem is that it is in essence uninteresting. There is nothing that particularly grabs the ear and makes you listen. Instead it seems content to just cruise along without trying particularly hard.

The hook consists of a melody which is essentially a descending and then ascending major scale starting on the third and not much else. It's a predictable form and one that we have heard a million times in a million different places. The chords hardly vary from the traditional I - IV - V chords heard in a myriad of different songs. Even these things could be forgiven if the lyrics or the rhythm were grabbing.

Bow Wow sings about how Ciara is his perfect woman, a feeling that most people can sympathise with but one that has been sung about so many times before. There are no lyrics that are particularly intriguing or grabbing so they too float over the listener's heads.

The track is quite ethereal due to the instrumentation and the thin texture, and it would admittedly would suit as just a song to chill to. But essentially Like You probably fits nicely alongside the other tracks on Wanted, but is not really single material.
