By Nick Levine | "
Nero?!" sneered Daddy on Boxing Day after inquiring as to what in the name of Ann Widdecombe the almighty racket we were listening to might be. "But isn't that a chain of over-priced faux-Italian coffee shops?" It would have been both churlish and inaccurate to correct him of course, but we did manage to find the energy from within our filthy-fizz-and-Christmas-pud soaked bones to point out that Nero is
also the name of a London-based drum and bass duo.
To be fair to our father - that's
our father, not Our Father - this breakthrough smash is indeed an almighty racket. But it's the very best kind of almighty racket, a swaggering synthesis of beats, power chords, stadium keyboard hooks, crowd noise and vocals from the lungularly-blessed Alana that sounds like the sort of thing David Haye might hear in his head as he struts into the ring. Memo to Emily Eavis: book this lot for Glasto
now… but remember to buy the poor cows some ear muffs first!
