Sunday Girl 'Stop Hey'
Pop is such a magnet for show-offs, try-hards and inveterate attention-seekers - some of them wonderful, of course, but some of them insufferable - that it's easy to forget how effortless it can all seem when done well. This is precisely why we need Broxbourne-born Jade Williams - a.k.a. Sunday Girl - and her third buzz single.

Driven by synths as shiny and muscular as an oiled-up bodybuilder, 'Stop Hey' is an instantly arresting electropop gem with a glorious chorus, a tension-building Killers-style middle 8 and intermittent drum thumps that make you want to punch the air with gusto. Williams, meanwhile, sets the scene with impressive economy: "I'm afraid of tomorrow / When I wake up you'll be gone." Who knows whether it took her and collaborator Jim Eliot (Kylie, Ladyhawke) 15 minutes or a fortnight to write; either way the result is sublime.
