Ladytron - 'Ace Of Hz' (Artwork)
The top 40 has always remained a black patent fingernail away, but that hasn't stopped Ladytron from amassing a sizeable cult fanbase, thrilling indie discos on both sides of the Atlantic with the likes of 'Sugar' and 'Destroy Everything You Touch', and even providing one of the highlights from Christina Aguilera's Bionic LP - the suitably soaring 'Bird Of Prey'.

Therefore, it's entirely appropriate that they should celebrate a decade of spooky-yet-tuneful synth-poppery with next months's Best Of 00-10 set. 'Ace Of Hz', one of two newbies completing the comp, is a welcome reminder of the Liverpool group's gifts: gossamer goth girl vocals, enough noirish atmospherics to soundtrack a key scene in a Hitchcock flick, and an elegant, swirling chorus that takes hold of your mind like a high-quality hallucinogen. It's glam-mope-pop par excellence - music to shuffle-dance to while staring at your exquisitely beautiful shoes.
