Morrissey is releasing the kick-off single from his upcoming eighth studio album Ringleader of the Tormentors, a song which suggests he’s produced a worthy successor to his comeback You Are The Quarry.
Moz delivers a song which is typically him. He croons his way through strangely reassuring melancholic lyrics with some typically ambiguous lines (“I entered nothing and nothing entered me / ‘Til you came with the key”) about a first lover who fails to live up to the task. Peppered with references to Italian culture (“Visconti is me / Magnani you’ll never be”), the song also comes across as an ode to his new-found home of Rome.
Produced by the legendary Tony Visconti (a different Visconti), the track features a typically infectious guitar line behind the endearing melodic vocals and is as catchy as the best of them, providing an upbeat backing for the less upbeat lyrics.
The single is available on CD and 7” with B-side Good Looking Man About Town. A maxi-CD is also available backed with a cover of the New York Dolls’ Human Being and his own I Knew I Was Next.

Moz is up to the mark again - I guess its about a lover that does not hit the mark and Italy... As I live and breath you have killed me {what a line}

Very catchy, it's one that gets in your head.

Brill! The album's a joy too, much better than 'Quarry', which was still a grower on me.
