If the sampling of a Dirty Dancing song on a certain "mega smasher" or a Stone Roses classic used on Wretch 32's recent hit hasn't piqued your curiosity over the past year, then perhaps a mash-up of the two most unlikely songs to meet will. Smushing together the Robin S club classic 'Show Me Love' with the melodic structure of Harry Belafonte's 'Day-O' (you know, off that Fruit 'n' Fibre ad), Jason Derulo has managed to piece together his new single 'Don't Wanna Go Home'.
"Day-o, me say Day-o/ Daylight come and we don't wanna go home," Jase chants over the all-too-familiar sample, which is teamed with chunky synths and a plodding dance beat that culminates in a curious but largely satisfying mix of topsy-turvy musical influences. "Check that out what they playin'/ That's my song that's my song," he ironically declares. We hate to break it to you Jase, but it's going to take more than a Jason Derulooo shoutout on the intro to make that sort of claim.
