Coldplay: 'Paradise'
It's no secret that indie music has had a rough time in the charts of late; and while albums are still getting a decent look-in, the major releases have garnered little attention when compared to the genre's heady days circa 2005. Lucky for Coldplay, they've always managed to tread a careful, if not slightly calculated, path between the two - but have they tipped the balance once and for all with 'Paradise'?

The looping, hi-gloss beats and swooping strings would certainly suggest so, reminiscent of Timbaland and Ryan Tedder's 'Apologise'; while the chant-along chorus and niggling "para-para paradise" hook sounds ripe for sampling on a not-too-distant Jay-Z single. It may lack the emotion of a 'Clocks' or 'Violet Hill', but Coldplay's poppiest outing to date still packs a weighty punch... at least until that RiRi collab anyway.
