Nicola Roberts: 'Lucky Day'
"Could it be my lucky day?" Nicola Roberts asks on the intro of her second solo offering, before calling up her latest beau in the hope of what sounds like some seriously satisfying action. With bagfuls of acclaim for her last single and a very promising-sounding album imminent, she's little reason to remain the shy-but-stony-faced Roberts of 2002 now, has she?

"Just like the first spark/ And watch the fireworks explode/ Boom! Boom! Baby," she teases with about as much subtlety as Amy Childs at a Champions League game afterparty. Co-written with Canadian pop-boffs Dragonette, the '60s-swing-meets-East-London vibe sounds more like a happy accident than a calculated label suggestion; though her Cilla Black-inspired vocal certainly won't be to everyone's taste. Could it be her lucky day? We have a sneaking suspicion she's in for a fair few yet.
