Evanescence: 'What You Want' - Single review

We'll admit we were slightly concerned when Evanescence announced that their long-awaited comeback album was inspired by electro music. For a band best known for their gothic-rock ballads, it's hard to imagine them successfully turning their hand to the club-pumping synths of Depeche Mode, La Roux and MGMT. That said, given the current chart trends, we should thank our lucky stars that a certain French knob-twiddler doesn't feature on it too.

Fortunately their words seemed to have been a touch overzealous; though it's clear from the trailer for the group's third album that they've been spending a night or two on the tiles. "Do what'cha-what'cha want if you have a dream for better," Amy Lee belts over stadium-shaking drums before a slew of thrashing, high-wired rawk guitars cut loose on the catchy-as-cholera chorus. Electro it certainly ain't, but the result is as dancefloor-friendly as it is mosh pit-ready.
