Marina and the Diamonds: 'Radioactive' - Single review

If Marina Lambrini Diamandis's debut album The Family Jewels taught us anything, it's that she is one tricky madam to suss out. Question is, how do you top an LP that managed to earn a top five placing despite having more quirks that Louis's X Factor category? Cue her self-made character Electra Heart; a white-blonde air-heard who "stands for the corrupt side of American ideology", she says. Confused? So are we - which can only be a good thing.

"Lying on a fake beach/ She'll never get a tan," she bitches over a minimalist club-ready beat about her ex's new lover, before insisting it was her that broke things off with him. "When you're around me I'm radioactive/ My blood is burning, radioactive," she continues on the radio-friendly, synth-laden, and deeply hypnotic chorus; though before we accuse her of bandwagon-hopping (it was produced by Rihanna and Katy Perry collaborators Stargate), we're certain it's all part of the irony, right?
