Florence + the Machine: 'Shake It Out' - Single review

If genre-hopping was an Olympic event, we'd put good money on Florence Welch picking up the gold medal. After her debut album Lungs was originally touted as a strictly indie-only affair, she instead went on to release a cover of Candi Staton's club classic 'You Got The Love', collaborated with grime-pop rapper Dizzee Rascal and even agreed for one of her own songs to undergo the Glee treatment.

Fortunately, the trailer for her second album Ceremonials proves she's still a leader in the field. "I've been a fool and I've been blind/ I can never leave the past behind," she confesses alongside a melody which includes organs, earthy drums and bells amongst its instrumental lineup. "Shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah!" she belts over crashing symbols and glittery synths on the chorus; the result, a good ol'-fashioned knees-up of a song that wouldn't sound out of place in an East London pub or the McKinley High stage.
