Christina Perri: 'Arms' - Single review

Having a surprise hit can be both a blessing and a curse; on the one hand you are catapulted to instant fame and recognition, but on the other you have to follow up the mega smash that put you there. Christina Perri's 'Jar of Hearts' was the dark horse of the summer charts and can still be heard gracing radio airwaves and tugging heartstrings on The X Factor. Question is, can she out-run the behemoth's shadow with her latest single?

Judging from the stripped-back and subdued intro, it's clear from the off that we're being taken for another round of soft guitar riffs and twinkly piano chimes. "I can't decide if I'll let you save my life or if I'll drown," Perri cautiously tells her new beau - clearly still nursing the wounds left from her previous relationship. Much like its predecessor, 'Arms' slowly builds into a poignant tear-jerker of Titanic proportions - let's just hope she can avoid the same dramatic conclusion.
