Alyssa Reid, Alone Again
Call us naive, but usually we're a sucker for a cheesy cover song. That said, since Glee successfully rejuvenated the once-dark and much-feared corner of the industry, we're skeptical about anyone else muscling in on their territory. Enter Alyssa Reid; an 18-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter who finished second in a little-known TV talent show in 2010 and is making her international debut by sampling Heart's 1987 hit 'Alone'.

Credit where it's due; it's not a note-by-note retread, but truth be told the bits that do are easily the best. Reid's vocal is pleasant enough, but amongst the dated production - which sounds like a Ryan Tedder power ballad circa 2009 - and the dodgy guest rapper P Reign, it could easily pass off as the latest product from Rebecca Black's Ark Music Factory rather than a genuine chart contender. We await the "social experiment" statement with trepidation.

2 Star Rating
