Childish Gambino: 'Heartbeat' - Single review

In every class at school, there's always that one person who is annoyingly good at everything. Being a successful and respected actor, writer, comedian and musician, we suspect Donald Glover - aka Childish Gambino - was that very person back in junior high. Whether it's the sharp-witted rhyming couplets or an astute understanding of modern society on his new single 'Heartbeat', it really does seem like there is nothing this LA-born whizz kid can't master.

"I give a f**k about the ni**as that you say you ate/ You know that I'm the best when I'm a-fake-tionate," he snarls over a Justice-inspired reverb and delicate piano, impressively flitting from hot-headed rap to smooth crooning on a soul-flecked chorus. "Are we dating? Are we f**king? Are we best friends? Are we something in between that?" he adds with utter confusion, leading us to exhale a sigh of relief - because despite his enviable multi-talents, like us all, he is still perplexed when it comes to dealing with matters of the heart.
