We all know by now that Marina Diamandis is a contrary lass, so releasing a brand new track two singles into an album campaign doesn't surprise us in the least. As such, we're inclined to believe the story that she wrote her latest effort 'How To Be A Heartbreaker' a week after wrapping up her Electra Heart album more so than if we'd heard it from any other popstar.
"Rule number three: wear your heart on your cheek, but never on your sleeve," she insists over plucky guitar strings and an electro-strutting bassline whilst reeling off her guide to being an A-grade player. It sounds wholly convincing, until she confesses her true feelings on the breakdown ("It's better to be fake/ can't risk losing in love again"). The result is a sprightly pop ditty that, on closer inspection, cuts surprisingly close.
