Labrinth ft. Emeli Sandé: 'Beneath Your Beautiful' - Single review

With just nine shopping weekends until Christmas, the slushy ballad season is now officially upon us. Though truth be told, we didn't have Labrinth down as the most likely contender to kick off the proceedings, having already released five singles from his debut album Electronic Earth without a ballad in sight.

That said, he's pleasingly set the bar high with 'Beneath Your Beautiful'; which sees him team up with crooner of the year and official London Olympics balladeer Emeli Sandé. "Would you let me see beneath your beautiful?" he asks with grainy innocence over lilting piano, allowing Sandé to belt over the beefier and squelchier beats. In theory it sounds like a painful mismatch, but the reality is a very different story.
