Much as we've never bemoaned the lack of 15-stone lesbians in pop music, Beth Ditto is exactly what we've been waiting for.
Feisty, opinionated and not afraid to wax lyrical about the sexual appeal of Britney's shaven head, she's a great antidote to the tedious emo whiners we're having to put up with at the moment.
'Standing In The Way Of Control' is her band's firecracker: all chugging guitar riffs, soulful wailing and a chorus that packs the instant impact of a slap round the face. Even its thrice-hourly exposure on those ubiquitous Skins trailers hasn't dimmed its power.

An amazing song from a singer with a fantastic voice.

The term "a breath of fresh air" is so overused, so cliche, that it is staler than a musty cupboard on a submarine. Yet, that is exactly what Beth Ditto and the Gossip are. I am sick of identikit pouting and preening female pop singers with voices like cats in heat. Beth Ditto's voice is like tornado in trailer park, it is so powerful. The song, with its frankly filthy bass line and guitars makes you yearn to dance pressed up against someone in a state of sweaty euphoria. My three year old even got up to throw some shapes. I can't wait to add this album to my collection.

This song is awful. She doesn't hit a single note correctly and shouts the whole thing. Awful rubbish.
