The battalion-like fanbase with an average age of 14, the bassist's shameless flaunting of his appendage, and now song titles written in text-speak. Why do Fall Out Boy always make us feel so damn past it? Our first reaction to 'Thnks For Th Mmrs' wasn't "Hurrah! A new pop single!" but "Oh for chrissake are vowels really so old-fashioned?" We're hanging our heads in shame as you read.

But, you know what, there's nothing alienating about this single at all. It's a driving rock song with a catchy-as-crabs chorus and a neat reference to Closer, that film with Jude, Julia and a pretty baldie who's not Britney Spears. And, hey, maybe we're not so out of touch after all: shouldn't the text equivalent of 'Thanks for the memories' actually be 'Thx 4 th mems'? Here's to eternal youth!
