It's hard not to warm to Klaxons, a band whose wardrobe is known to feature bacofoil hoodies, ponchos that rip off Kylie's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' dress and more neon than Piccadilly Circus. Plus, they're doubtless the only NME cover stars ever to express a desire to work with the Stock Aitken Waterman hit factory.

'Gravity's Rainbow', the follow-up to their breakthrough hit 'Golden Skans', is a brilliant slice of psychedelic space-age pop. It's filled with sci-fi blips, off-kilter surf guitar, slightly deranged falsetto harmonies and lyrics like "Madcap medusa flank my foghorn". We're not quite sure if that's a double entendre. Either way, Pete Waterman shouldn't be expecting a phone call just yet.
