Pop groups manufactured for TV shows are an odd breed. While S Club 7 won a place in our hearts with their dodgy comic timing on Miami 7 - we're talking to you, Bradley McIntosh - the girls with guitars from Channel 4's Totally Frank only managed to find a home in Woolie's bargain bin. Bel's Boys, the stars of a Monkees-style show on CITV, need to prove they're more than just actors who take a singing class every second Wednesday. What they need is a great song.

What they've got is a cover of a decade-old Sean Maguire single. 'Today's The Day' is pleasant enough: a chirpy slice of sixties-style guitar pop with a chorus of rousing "na na nas" and a jaunty, toe-tapping beat. The problem? It's nothing that McFly haven't done before. Better. And with more charm.
