Much has been made of Bon Jovi's journey to Nashville to record their "countrified" new album Lost Highway. Thankfully, there's little evidence of it here. '(You Want To) Make A Memory’ is a vintage Jovi ballad: melodic, heartfelt and as innovative as a fart. Quite frankly, it might as well have been recorded in Bognor Regis.
Richie Sambora’s surging guitar riffs dovetail pleasantly with Jon Bon Jovi’s yearning vocals, but the most memorable thing about this single is its unintentionally hilarious lyrics. “I dug up this old photograph,” the big man croons, “Look at all that hair we had.” Jon, mate, you’ve still got all that hair. These days, though, you've covered it with multi-tone highlights.
