James Blunt's new single, so he claims, is inspired by the Ibiza club scene. Wait... come back! The trusty troubadour hasn't popped a coupla pills, given Pete Tong a ring and welded his soft rock stylings to a four to the floor beat. Not for the radio version, anyway. '1973', the first taster from his sophomore album All The Lost Souls, is as pleasant and mum-friendly as anything on his eleven-million selling debut.
Like those Back To Bedlam airplay-hoggers – ‘Goodbye My Lover', ‘High’, the one where Blunty confessed to having a “semi by the sea” - its appeal is nigh-on unfathomable. The melody is passable. The lyrics are as stale and clichéd as an episode of My Family. The guitar solo sounds like it's been nicked from an old Eagles record. The sole redeeming factor? You won't be hearing this soporific soft rock chugger half as often as 'You're Beautiful'.

It seems that this reporter has jumped on a minority band wagon slagging of James Blunt. James Blunt is a breath of fresh air with his songs and songwriting in a society where property songwriters are very few and far between. Maybe your reviewer is more used to club music and good music is lost to him! By the way I think the new single is great.
