Charlie from Busted, sorry I mean Fightstar, has done just about all he can to rid himself of his Smash Hits past. He let his stubble grow wild, didn't wash his hair for a couple of weeks and started hanging around with some hairy, scary-looking men with a penchant for leather. However, after one album of rock-by-numbers, plodding, easily forgettable material, he's ditched the too-cool-for-school act and brought back the harmonies that had every girl around the country swooning over him, James and Matt in the not so distant past.
'We Apologise For Nothing' could easily be the older, slightly more rebellious brother of 'You Said No' or 'Sleeping With The Light On', with added rattling drum crashes and twisted guitar thrashes to show mum how big and clever it is. Charlie's amazing just-been-chewing-on-a-sheet-of-sandpaper vocals are as gruff and domineering as ever, while the rest of the band offer a brooding, crunching melody before they all crack into the hurricane-like chorus and Simpson lets his vocal chords rip themselves around the hook line of: "We apologise for nothing / Take the world away from us but / We apologise for nothing."
A roaring return to form from Simpson and his Fightstar buddies that may lay the Busted ghost to rest once and for all.
