The Hoosiers: 'Goodbye Mr A'
Well at least they're not The Feeling! While it might not be the greatest of compliments, it's at least something for The Hoosiers to cling on to as they follow the 'Fill My Little World Right Up' soft rock-come-popsters into the world of chirpy, perky, Virgin Radio-hogging singles. 'Goodbye Mr A' rugby tackles the riff of ELO's 'Mr Blue Sky' and places it all back together again in the totally wrong order. It's slightly uncomfortable to listen to, mildly irritating and sure to infiltrate radio station playlists like the proverbial bad smell.

On 'Goodbye Mr A' The Hoosiers move one step closer to evolving into the 00's version of technobilly, children's novelty act The Cartoons (they did the 'Witchdoctor' doo-dah song in '99, novelty record fans). With more forced fun and pinned-back smiles than you'd find on the cast of High School Musical locked in a cupboard with one of Ant and Dec's studio audiences, it rams its giddy key changes, tootling keys and wacky sound effects down your ears until you find yourself screaming for Pete Waterman to come back with a Steps reunion.

I barely remember ELO, and have no idea if this song sounds like their track or not, but it is a great song.

I really don't agree with this, GMA sounds nothing like Mr. Blue Sky and they are really not irritating. The Hoosiers are so much more than just the stupid cheesy band you are makingt his out to be. Some of their songs are upbeat and fun, while others are meaningful and though provoking. Give em a chance, they are SO amazing. Yeah, so: I love the hoosiers. end of.

That review stamped all over the genre, which is a complete matter of taste! It's a great tribute to ELO and I love the song!

Regardless of what you say, Caroline and amc, if you knew the first thing about music you'd be puking with disgust at how this song has completely ripped off ELO. Who in their right mind would think nobody would notice? It's idiots like you who make clown-ish bands like this successful while real musicians suffer. SHAME ON YOU. P.S Their next single sounded exactly the same. Toilet, just toilet

what a wierd review of a wonderful song. I love the song and think its a great tribute to ELO. But I still want to know who Mr A is. A former manager who tried to stifle them perhaps?

Totally agree - this is such a blatant rip off of ELO's Mr Blue Sky (without a trace of originality), I'd be surprised if they don't end up in court!

The Hoosiers' brand of oddpop is not normally my thing, but a good song is a good song, irrespective of genre. This is brilliantly catchy, if lightweight, which makes me wonder if the band are indeed 'sustainable' (as amc says). apropos the review: I'm not sure - ultimately - what point the reviewer is trying to make, other than give the impression he's 'above' this kind of song in an infra dig kind of way. His last sentence reference to Pete Waterman and Steps is laughable and is more a reflection on his self-regarding preciousness than the quality of the song itself. All very Melody Maker 1980sthing.

Totally agree with Caroline...what an awful review - not because I don't agree with it, but the weird necessity to criticise it just to make it sound like a review! I'm not usually into bands like the Hoosiers, but the moment I heard the song I loved it! I loved their first single too, but this one is ace...waiting every day for it to come out (even though it already has on itunes). Not annoying at all; great tune, might not be the most sustainable band, but they're certainly MUCH better than your average pop-chart tosh!! I recommend anyone to buy the single! Will wait to see how whole album fairs...

What the hell is wrong with the Feeling???!!! Awful review. Bands such as The Feeling and the Hoosiers are a breath of fresh air in a chart full of manafactured R'n'B crap.
